Rejecting Man United, Gakpo joined Liverpool

PSV Eindhoven confirmed to have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of Cody Gakpo – the striker who has been hunted by Man Utd for many months.

According to PSV’s announcement on December 26, the management of the Dutch club and Liverpool completed negotiations on Boxing day.

It is expected that Gakpo will travel to the UK in the next few days to undergo medical examination as well as undergo necessary procedures before completing the transfer.

If he passes the final procedures, Gakpo will become a Liverpool player when the transfer window opens on January 1, 2023. The Dutch striker can make his debut against Brentford in the Premier League on January 2 or against Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup on January 7.

Both Liverpool and PSV agreed not to announce the transfer fee. But general manager Marcel Brands insists this is a “record transfer for PSV”.

Transfer hunter Fabrizio Romano said Liverpool had to pay a transfer fee of $ 45 million, with a fee of $ 15 million, to have Gakpo’s services. The duration of the contract has not been confirmed.

In the first 24 matches of the 2022-2023 season, Gakpo also impressed with 13 goals and 18 assists. In total, he has 55 goals and 50 assists in 159 games for PSV.
