Atletico Madrid want to bring back Garnacho

The Spanish news outlet Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid is interested in re-signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.

Garnacho’s breakthrough under Man United

After a series of impressive outings for Manchester United in November, Garnacho has emerged as one of the league’s rising talents.

On November 3, he scored his first goal for Manchester United, the game-winning goal in the Europa League match against Real Sociedad in the Basque Country. The goal gives him the distinction of becoming Man Utd’s youngest ever foreign scorer in a European competition.

Several days later, he helped Man Utd defeat Aston Villa 4–2. He now holds the record as Man Utd’s youngest player to record two assists in a game.

As if that weren’t enough, he capped it all off by scoring the game-winning goal in a 3–0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, his first goal in the Premier League.

In 5 games played during the 2022-23 season, Garnacho has tallied 2 goals and 3 assists.

Atletico Madrid want to re-sign Alejandro Garnacho

Former Atletico junior player Garnacho will spend the next five years (from 2015 to 2020) in Madrid with the young squad.

When he was 16, he left Atletico to join the Man Utd academy for 500,000 euros.

After more than two years, Atletico reportedly regrets letting Garnacho go and wants to bring him back, as reported by Fichajes.

Since Garnacho is already under contract until 2024 and Man Utd wants to extend it, an agreement between the two will be extremely challenging to negotiate.

Man Utd has full faith in Garnacho, whose star has skyrocketed thus far this season.

Unlike Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial, who both have exit options in 2023, Garnacho is considered a crucial long-term piece.
